Young baptism a double standard with marriage?
by thedepressedsoul ini remember tons of young ones getting counseled for being too young to date and for marriage.
the elders said, "marriage is the 2nd biggest dedication of your life (baptism being 1st), at 20 you still don't know who you are or what you want.
you can't possibly make a decision like that, that young!

Half banana
bugger off with the remaining cash
Not possible as long as they are a non-profit organization. Once they lose this non-profit status, then it will be possible for them to dish out the remaining cash. After all the changes made to to bOrg structure puts the seven of them at the top.
This dishing out the cash will have its legal problems, but I suspect it can be done.

by John Aquila inwhat would have happen if i was not home when jehovahs witnesses knocked on my door?.
there was a group of us living in a small trailer in the mid 60s when and old pioneer brother knocked on our door and placed all kinds of books and magazines with us.
all of us took it seriously and studied and started attending the kingdom hall.

The JW way of life gives someone a level of stability in life, if they never had it before. I did have a level of stability before I became a JW, but answers to life's questions were missing.
The answer to Life, the Universe and Everything being 42 wasn't sufficient, so I became a JW.
But being lied to and manipulated was not what I expected, it took me 28 years to realize.

I was just reading a little on cognitive dissonance (Wikipedia) and I found this statement quite interesting:
- A 2012 study using a version of the forbidden toy paradigm showed that
hearing music reduces the development of cognitive dissonance.
Mind Control is very effective and using every possible measure to keep cult members under control is something the Watchtower does.
So by improving the music they possible increase the Mind Control on members.

Specific Comments By R&F About May Broadcast
by freemindfade ini know there are many posts discussing the may money requesting televangalism...er... broadcast i mean!
but i wanted to start one where anyone can put what they have heard any non-exjw, non-apostate witnesses say good or bad about the broadcast.
i don't see how it can't rattle followers... but then again i might be surprised how they can twist things (2+2=5).

- DF: when under stress one tends to revert back to the personality before being indoctrinated into the cult.
- What is your basis for saying this?
On looking at the statement I made, maybe it was a bit hasty my saying that. The subject and the problems I am having at the moment are quite emotional.
On saying that I was led to make the statement due to the following factors:
1. I have noticed with myself that I have reverted back to some extent to my pre-cult personality
2. I have noticed with my wife, although I did not know her before she was JW, she has told me some of the things she did before she was a JW, and they did show a level of viciousness
3. In Steven Hassen's book "Combating Cult Mind Control" (New Edition) from page 133 onwards he discusses that every cult member has a Dual Personality, this is even so for Born-ins. When in the cult the cult-personality dominates, and occasionally the non-cult/pre-cult personality raises its head
4. Also from a biblical point of view Ephesians 4:22-24 does also talk about having two personalities
So as my original comments causing you to question my statement, from my side was emotionally charged, I beg that you take this into account.

I never new my wife before she was a JW, and when under stress one tends to revert back to the personality before being indoctrinated into the cult. This has been a stressful time for both of us, the stress coming from the congregation and due to the indoctrination. The pre-cult personality traits she has shown due to the stress were vicious, really vicious, so my thinking is she is a better person as a witness than not being a witness. So I do not try to prove anything unless she specifically asks, which she will quite likely not ask. If she does ask of course I shall give her the information. When she reported me to the elders she took great pleasure in telling me in a most disrespectful and condescending manner which elder she told, the one I dislike the most because he is a liar and a cheat and clearly fits the clinical description of a psychopath.
I have to live with the life I have, but our marriage is certainly not going to last, I do not want this toxicity the rest of my life.

disillusioned 2
I feel the same as you, mad.
I married a sister and we had one child. Before I knew JWs it was my desire to have a family with at least 3 children.
That is what I missed out on and that pisses me off.
